Steam Summer Sale

Steam is having its big summer sale until July 22, 2013.  This is a humongous sale with daily and flash deals, as well as other sale prices. Flash sales are the best if you can catch them.  The sale also extends to Steam for Linux.  The prices are out of this world!  Excellent indie games FTL and SPAZ (Space Pirates and Zombies) are available for $2.49 and $1.99, respectively.  I’m sure you will find something you like, if you are into gaming at all.  🙂

Happy 15th Birthday, CodeWeavers

In May, 1996, Jeremy White founded CpdeWeavers and then rolled out the company’s product, CrossOver, based on Wine. It started out as a Windows emulator just for Linux. When the Intel Mac came out, they released CrossOver for Mac in 2007.

In honor of their 15th birthday, CodeWeavers will be selling their CrossOver Bundle (normally $49.95) at a greatly reduced price. On May 15, the price was $15, on the 16th it was $16, etc. Today (May 19) it is $19.

The CrossOver bundle consists of CrossOver Standard plus CrossOver Games.

Ubuntu Sources List Generator, Getdeb and Playdeb

It has been a while since I have blogged about the Ubuntu Sources List Generator. I use it to discover new repositories and to find out when repositories are updated for the next alpha or beta release. Now that Lucid has been released, there are many excellent repositories for it.

Recently, the Getdeb and Playdeb repositories were added. Getdeb has, along with up-to-date copies of Ubuntu software, other excellent programs such as webmin that are not (yet) in the Ubuntu repositories.

For those who claim that Linux has a shortage of games, Playdeb may be one of the best answers. It has a long list of games, some of which are more updated versions of the ones in the Ubuntu repository, but others are like FreeOrion, not part of the repository. I have been looking all over for FreeOrion – and here it is:

So far, the game appears to be very playable. And it’s only one of many in the Playdeb repository!
