Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) Has Been Released

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise) is now available for download.  Because this is release day, Ubuntu’s servers are being pounded, so you may want to try one of the alternative download options, such as BitTorrent.  If you are upgrading an existing Ubuntu installation, you may wish to wait a few days because the upgrade servers are also being pounded,

If you are upgrading from Ubuntu 11.10 (Natty) or Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) rather than re-installing, you will need to type Alt + F2 and type in “update-manager” (without the quotes).  Update Manager will come up with a message telling you that the new version 12.04 is available.  Click on Upgrade, then follow the instructions.

Since Precise is the new LTS (Long Term Support) version of Ubuntu, it will be maintained and supported for 5 years on both desktop and server.
