Getdeb and Playdeb Repositories Now Available For Maverick

The Getdeb and Playdeb repositories, unofficial repositories of the very latest open source and freeware applications for the most recent Ubuntu releases, are now available for Maverick Meerkat.

The instructions for how to configure the Getdeb repository are here. The simplest way is to install the getdeb package. Otherwise, you can configure the repository manually:

Go to System-Administration-Software Sources, Third-Party Software tab, Add:
deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu maverick-getdeb apps

Add the repository GPG key, open a terminal window and type:
wget -q -O- http://archive.getdeb.net/getdeb-archive.key | sudo apt-key add –

Once you run sudo apt-get update, you can start using the Getdeb repository.

The Playdeb instructions are much the same. The easiest way is to install the playdeb package. Otherwise, to configure the repository manually:

Go to System-Administration-Software Sources, Third-Party Software tab, Add:
deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu maverick-getdeb games

Add the repository GPG key, open a terminal window and type:
wget -q -O- http://archive.getdeb.net/getdeb-archive.key | sudo apt-key add –

The same reminder holds – you will need to run sudo apt-get update before you can start using the Playdeb repository.

Not all of the software is in the repositories yet. It is quickly being added.
