The Maverick Release Candidate Is Now Available

The Maverick (Ubuntu 10.10) release candidate is now available. Since this is still a candidate for release and not the final release itself, it comes with the warning not to install it on a production machine. The final version will be released on October 10, 2010.

To upgrade from Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a desktop system, press Alt+F2 and type in “update-manager -d” (without the quotes) into the command box. The update manager will then open and tell you: New distribution release ‘10.10’ is available. Then, click Upgrade and follow the instructions.

To download the release candidate:

The following link will direct you to a download location near you: (Ubuntu Desktop, Server, and Netbook)

Additional ISOs and torrents are also available at: (Ubuntu Server for UEC and EC2) (Kubuntu) (Xubuntu) (Edubuntu DVD) (Ubuntu Studio) (Ubuntu ARM) (Mythbuntu) (Kubuntu Mobile Preview) (Kubuntu Mobile Preview ARM)

I have blogged about the alphas and the beta, so I will only mention one new thing about the Software Center. The server is now turned on and the Ubuntu team requests that those who can afford to do so purchase their test package called Rick’s Wallpapers The cost is $1 and all profits will go to the Ubuntu Project itself.
