Maverick Meerkat Alpha 1 Has Been Released

Maverick Meerkat Alpha 1 has been released. It is the first alpha release of Ubuntu 10.10. As an alpha release, it should not be installed on production machines. The final, stable version will be released on October 10, 2010.

To upgrade from Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a desktop system, simply press Alt + F2 and type in “update-manager -d” (without the quotes of course) into the command box. Update manager will then tell you: New distribution release ‘10.10’ is available. Then you just need to click on upgrade.

So far, the updates included in Maverick include:

The GNOME base platform has been updated to the current 2.31 version.

KDE has been updated to the current 4.5 beta 1 release.

Qt has been updated to the current 4.7 beta release.

Alpha 1 includes the 2.6.34-5.12 Linux kernel based on 2.6.34.

As always, get it while it’s hot. ISOs and torrents are available at: (Ubuntu Desktop, Server, and Netbook) (Ubuntu Server for UEC and EC2) (Kubuntu Desktop and Netbook) (Xubuntu) (Ubuntu Studio)
